6 A.M. Shenanigans with My Inner Shame
Jul 16, 2025
I woke up at 5:30 feeling scattered.
There was this subtle emotional pain I couldn’t quite name.
So I sat down.
π§π»βοΈ Meditated for an hour.
π Did a LOT of self-inquiry.
ποΈ Journaled like crazy.
And slowly… clarity came.
I became more aware of the roots of my shame—
and started to see how I could release it.
I felt so light afterwards.
Like a feather. πͺΆ
Phew. π«
ππ»Here’s the thing:
Shame is deeply tied to self-worth.
And it often shows up loudest when we’re navigating (or even just thinking about) divorce.
But here’s the kicker—
That shame didn’t start with your relationship.
It usually began way earlier, often in childhood, long before you ever met your partner.
And it’s sneaky.
Because shame often shows up hand in hand with pride (the defensive kind).
Yes, you can feel proud and ashamed at the same time. π€―
π§ Why Does This Matter in Divorce?
Divorce has a way of triggering shame, especially if you feel like you’ve “failed,” weren’t “enough,” or didn’t live up to the roles of partner, parent, or provider.
And if left unexamined, shame can quietly sabotage your decisions.
It can keep you stuck in toxic loops, even years after the papers are signed.
When shame goes unaddressed, you might:
- Over-apologize or overcompensate with your kids or ex
- Accept less than you deserve in settlements or relationships
- Stay silent when you need to advocate for yourself
- Struggle to believe you can rebuild a life you love
This is the kind of deep, inner work I do with my clients.
How to self-inquire or where to even begin?
